So, how does God correct us? Through
His word, Through the Holy Spirit, Through our Husbands, Through our Friends…
Pro 27:17 Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of
his friend.
But speak thou the things which become sound
doctrine:
That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate,
sound in
faith, in charity, in patience. The aged women likewise, that
they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false
accusers,
not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be
sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good,
obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed. Tit 2:1-5
I look at these verses and think that it is the job of someone that
loves you to correct you. It takes a special person to be able to lovingly
correct. We should all have those people
that we trust and can go to for correction.
I am a very open person. I do not have a problem sharing details of my
life to someone that will give me their honest opinion/advice.
Open rebuke is
better than secret love. Faithful are
the
wounds of a
friend; but
the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.
The full soul loatheth an honeycomb; but to
the hungry soul
every bitter thing is sweet. Pro 27:5-7
God says a true friend will tell you when you are wrong and when you
need to fix some things in your life. Another thought I had when I read these verses was that God wants us to be open and willing to be corrected. If you think you are above every other person and do not need to work on anything you are like the full soul that loatheth the honeycomb. If you are open to the correction, even though it is bitter at times, you will be able to handle it and it will be sweet to your soul.
